Rediscovering the Power of a Morning Routine

The past few days, I’ve felt like I’ve been living in a hoarder’s storage unit. My partner and I moved to a new apartment, bringing with us far too much furniture. Most of it remains deconstructed, leaving loose planks, screws, and plastic storage bins scattered throughout our space.

Typically, I follow a fairly rigorous morning routine. I go for a walk, write in my journal, and read affirmations from a small booklet. However, with the chaos of moving, I had been unable to locate my journal or find a clear space to write. This morning was the first time since Thursday that I finally unearthed both my journal and affirmations booklet—and some table space to write on.

This experience was a stark reminder of how essential my morning routine is for maintaining a sense of calm and control. Without it, the disorder in my surroundings seeped into my mindset, making each day feel more disorganized and overwhelming. The simple act of returning to my morning ritual brought a peace and clarity that had been sorely missing.

A Miracle Morning Routine

Almost a year ago, I read Hal Elrod’s Miracle Morning, a book that underscores the importance of dedicating the first part of your day to personal development. Elrod argues that just an hour each morning can profoundly impact how you approach the rest of your day.

The Miracle Morning routine is built around six key practices, encapsulated in the acronym “SAVERS”: Silence (meditation), Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, and Scribing (journaling). These activities are designed to foster personal growth and set a positive tone for the day, even if you only have a few minutes to devote to each.

Why a Morning Routine Matters

Here are some reasons why establishing a rigorous morning routine is so essential:

  • Sets a Positive Tone for the Day: Starting your day with intention and positivity creates momentum that carries you through challenges.
  • Increases Productivity: When you prioritize personal development first thing in the morning, you’re more focused and efficient throughout the day.
  • Builds Discipline: Consistently following a morning routine strengthens self-discipline, which benefits all areas of your life.
  • Enhances Mental Clarity: Engaging in activities like meditation, journaling, or reading helps clear your mind and improves focus.
  • Supports Personal Growth: Prioritizing morning activities that contribute to your goals fosters continuous self-improvement.

My recent chaotic mornings, devoid of routine, underscored how much I rely on these practices to feel in control, clear-headed, and ready for the day. Now that my routine is back in place, my day feels more structured, and I’m confident in my ability to accomplish what I set out to do. I wish the same for you!

Time to Establish Your Morning Routine

If you haven’t already, consider setting aside time each morning for personal development activities that resonate with you. Whether you follow Elrod’s method or create your own, this investment in yourself can transform your days.
