This morning, I was briefly touched by inspiration. I felt like a river cutting through stone—both unyielding and flowing effortlessly toward something that was meant to be—an unstoppable force moving swiftly toward something that seemed destined to exist. The words I wrote felt as though they were not my own, as if they had always belonged here.

Creative expression flowed effortlessly, almost as if inspiration itself had taken a seat next to me. I could almost see her, hovering to my right, silently approving my every sentence. She was warm, and her presence filled me with a sense of love and purpose.

Now, I find myself desperately trying to hold on to that feeling—to hold on to her. She lingers with me still, but I wonder, for how long? It feels like she’s gently watching, evaluating my commitment to the act of creating. How long will I write? How long will I embrace this fleeting moment of brilliance before she fades away?

But I am grateful for her presence, even if it is temporary. Being touched by inspiration is truly the most magical feeling, and I would wish it upon anyone pursuing their creative endeavors. I learn again that inspiration is not always there, waiting.

As the poet Ruth Stone once described, inspiration can be like a galloping horse heading toward you. If you don’t catch it at the right moment, it might pass by entirely. When I felt that spark today, I knew I had to abandon my routine and seize the moment, holding onto it for as long as I could.

Creative expression is unpredictable, but it comes more often to those who make space for it. Show up for your project, and you may just find that inspiration will too. Even if she doesn’t appear right away, the act of creating is still worthwhile—it’s the groundwork that brings joy and fulfillment to your life.
