The Best Piece of Advice I Ever Had.

Many years ago, I was torn between many projects, associations and commitments. Between my studies, joining multiple associations, climbing, actively socializing with anyone I met and pursuing creative expression like painting and writing, I was completely spent.

During that hectic time, a dear friend shared a simple but life-changing piece of advice: evaluate what drains your energy and what replenishes it. I hadn’t thought about my commitments in such a structured way before, but slowly, it began to resonate. Over time, I realized that if we don’t manage our energy consciously, we end up living lives that are

  • Disorganized: We find ourselves swept along by every new commitment, activity, or person, without focus or direction. This leaves us unable to invest in the areas that truly matter to us.
  • Untrue to ourselves: We end up pursuing goals and paths that don’t reflect our core values, living in a way that feels disconnected from who we are.
  • Unfulfilled: Our days become filled with activities and relationships that fail to spark joy, leaving us feeling empty despite being constantly busy.

Time To Let Go

The wisdom I received offered a clear way to assess my priorities: observe how an activity feels from start to finish. After a few months of reflection, I began trimming down my commitments and relationships, keeping only the ones that brought joy.

This simple advice transformed my life, and I hope it will help you find focus too.
