I started writing down my goals for a week, month, or year roughly seven years ago. Here’s what I’ve learned:
- I struggle to remember what my past self thought was a good goal.
- Achieving a goal is usually less difficult than it seems (though it can still be challenging).
One thing I continuously struggle with is deciding what my goals should be. I have general goals related to sports and health, education and career, and occasionally a creative project that I want to finish within a certain timeframe. The latter are among the hardest goals; I am not yet a master at finishing what I start. Sometimes, I am simply out of inspiration and unable to come up with any fun goals for the next period.
Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? Here are some questions that may help you figure out a direction for your future goals:
- What have you done in the past year that you are really proud of?
- Name one of your most memorable achievements in life.
- What made the achievements you mentioned in the previous two questions so memorable or pride-inducing?
- Could you improve upon these achievements even further?
- How could you achieve the same pride in other areas of your life?
Every now and then, when you feel directionless, take a couple of minutes to ponder these questions. Feel free to share any goals you come up with in the comments 😊
